CONSULTANT

You're in or close to it and need a structured way to assess your readiness and sharpen your positioning.

The Risk and Readiness Lab is a practical, structured short course designed to help you assess whether you’re ready to move from employment into contracting or consulting.

Through a series of focused topics, self-reflection exercises, and scoring tools, you’ll evaluate your current position across key areas such as financial stability, capability, market demand, risk exposure, and personal readiness. The course translates complex decisions into a clear, evidence-based outcome, helping you determine whether to Stay Put, Prepare to Leave, or Leave Now.

This is not about motivation or making a leap. It is about understanding your risk profile, identifying gaps, and making a considered, informed decision about your next move.

I created The Solo Move because I was tired of watching highly capable professionals make major career decisions without a clear risk model.

For most of my career, I’ve worked across complex infrastructure, asset management, and organisational change environments, advising executives, supporting major programs, and working within both government and private-sector systems. Through that experience, I saw firsthand how organisations apply discipline to managing physical assets, risk, value, and performance, yet many professionals apply far less rigour to managing their own careers.

The Solo Move exists to remove hype from going independent and replace it with clarity. It is not a motivation platform; it is a readiness platform.

Learn More About Me

The Solo Move is not about escaping employment or chasing independence at any cost. It is about understanding the commercial, psychological, and personal realities of working for yourself and deciding whether, when, and how that path fits your life.

Contracting and consulting can offer freedom, leverage, and impact. They can also introduce volatility, isolation, and pressure. Both sides matter. Pretending otherwise is how people get hurt.

The Solo Move Book

The Solo Move is a practical, strategic guide for experienced professionals ready to transition from employee to contractor and from contractor to consultant with clarity and control.

It unpacks the commercial, psychological, and risk realities of going solo, offering structured frameworks, real-world insights, and reflective prompts to help you build capability, credibility, and long-term sustainability.

This is not a hype-driven leap into self-employment; it’s a deliberate, well-considered move toward autonomy, higher-value work, and professional maturity.
